Robotic

Manafex wants to musically explore the ideas of AI gaining consciousness and the general philosophical area of contemplating the state of living, breathing, and appreciating whatever life is. After being briefed to make a robot to suit those ideas, this is the end result. Judge for yourself, but I think it came out primo.

Inspiration

Jack, who goes by the pseudonym Manafex for all of his music performance branding, shares a similar perspective to me on the nature of life and the universe with all of their unfathomable complexities. What the philosopher Gilles Deleuze might call rhizomes – the profoundly complex set of connections between things in this universe. There's so much to be said about even the simplest things around us, these things are made up of many components, microscopic or macroscopic, and all of these things are only identifiable as components in relation to them not being any of the other things that exist. It never ends, the world is a marvellous place, and life is even more baffling... somehow.

Briefing

Jack wants to help wake people up or keep them aware of the profound things that we are, and are surrounded by all the time. He is a technologically savvy person and unsurprisingly finds it interesting to consider the possibility of humans constructing robots that harbour a conscience. This was the inspiration for this song, and so I was briefed with designing imagery of a robot to help convey this idea.
