After finishing the restoration of my dream car, a Nissan S13 Silvia '92, I wanted to make something graphical for it, an outrun styled scene of the car would do just the trick.
I really love vaporwave and outrun visual aesthetics, and although my car isn't quite from the 70s/80s, I think that it still fits the retro style well. It's a simple, front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout with no ABS, no airbags, no traction control, none of that. Just a chassis, an engine, and a driver... and a turbo that goes whooosshhhh!
To create the image I first took an original Nissan-released image of the car into Illustrator, image traced it to four different colours of vector paths, which gave me the white, dark blue, light blue and purple forms that make up the car. I then took that into Photoshop where I spiced up the rest of the image with the wavy background, and retro scanning line ground, and the glow of the lights and so forth. I love the colour combinations and it captures a piece of how I feel driving my car.
